Scope and Contents

From the Series:

Series contains discrete collections donated to the Maine Medical Center (MMC) archives. Collections include papers by and about various individuals and their interests, work, or research. For the most part, these collections were found or compiled by their donors, and while limited in scope they provide insight into the work and lives of their subjects and/or record creators. Photographs and artifacts have been separated for housing but remain intellectually connected. Below is a brief description of each collection.

Note: Bound volumes are shelved at the end of the collection.

Maine Fetal Risk Project. Records, reports, and correspondence related to a quantitative risk-assessment project conducted between 1979 and 1982.

Louis Bove collection. Personal papers and writings about colleagues, research into the 67th General Hospital Unit, and Department of Medicine alumni material and publications. Dr. Bove worked at MMC for decades.

Charles H. Payson papers. Payson’s correspondence and personal papers, as well as items related to his son, Phillips Payson, and staff members of MGH/MMC. Charles Payson was an MGH Trustee and Phillips Payson a president of the MMC Board.

Norma Emerson Perry collection. Donation consisted primarily of artifacts; those retained are housed with the collection’s museum objects. Included here are some miscellaneous documents and information about the donation. Ms. Perry was an MGH junior volunteer and a 1951 graduate of the MGH School of Nursing.

Kidder/Philbrick collection. Collection of 19th century medical publications, such as medical school catalogs, journals, and various writings. Dr. Frederick Kidder collected this material and Donald Philbrick, a probable descendent, donated them to MMC; neither has a direct connection to the hospital.

Frank G. Devereux collection. Collection of personal, family, and work documents, publications, and records. Broad in scope, the collection provides insight into the life of a late 19th and early 20th century physician. Dr. Devereux was on staff at MGH for a portion of his 60-year career.
