Scope and Content note
This collection includes correspondence and essays from Rebecca Usher's days at the Ursuline Convent and a diary, account book and much correspondence from her period of service in Chester, Pennsylvania, and in City Point, Virginia. The Civil War correspondence, mostly between Rebecca and her sisters, depicts the duties and experiences of a Civil War nurse, as well efforts on behalf of Maine women to aid soldiers.
