Administrative note

The Waterfront Alliance is a non-profit, civic organization committed to protecting and promoting the Port of Portland and the working waterfronts of South Portland and Portland. The organization was founded during the 1980s with the recognition that the working waterfronts of the Port of Portland could and should be supported and protected as an exceptional resource for our region's economy, our quality of life, and culture.

Arrangement

Collection arranged in two series.

  • 1. General files, 1990-2019
  • 2. Dues, 2000-2011

Provenance

Gift of Erno Bonebakker, Vice-Chair of the Executive Committee, February 27, 2018 and 2020 (acc. nos. 2018.220 and 2020.013).

Processing note

For the most part, original order was retained, keeping the contents of the folders intact, as well as the order the records came in. It's possible to put all the minutes together, etc., but the decision was made to keep the records together chronologically, except for the dues, which were separated out before processing.

With organizational records there will be some overlap of materials, so the researcher will want to look in several places for materials (for example, if you don't see what you want in the 2011 folder in the first section, check the 2011 folder in "Dues"). Duplicates were weeded out as much as possible. A sampling of photocopies of checks, as well as a sampling of letters reminding members of dues, was retained (in the Dues series). There may be some duplication between the Dues and the General series. More weeding could be done in the future, and within the folders the material could be organized more chronologically.
