Administrative note

Most of these materials are regarding the post office in Westport, Maine. S. P. Webber was the postmaster at the time (possibly Stephen Prescott Webber, 1827-1897). William W. Knight, Eugene P. Webber, F. (?) G. Greenleaf, Edward McCarty, Robert Cameron were mail carriers or messengers. There appears to be a connection between the post office on Westport Island and the post office in Woolwich, as well as a mail route from Bath to Westport. Mail seems to have come from the steamboat landing to the post office. The post office on the island was discontinued in 1907, but mail delivery continued.
