Biographical note

This collection is comprised of farming journals, diaries, photographs and catalogs by various authors from 1830 to 1924.

The known authors are D.W. Spencer, David Dickey, Isaiah Bean, Walter Bartlett, Nellie Turner and Jonathan Parkhurst. Isaiah Bean was born in Kennebec in 1813 and died July 1896. He was married to Celestia Pond in 1836 and they had five children: Olivia, George, Henry, Phoebe and Imogene. Walter Bartlett was born in 1854 in Monroe and was married to Adelia J. Bartlett. Walter Bartlett wrote in his journal until his death and the journal includes his obituary notice. There are photocopies of journals kept by Jonathan Parkhurst and the location of the originals are unknown.

There are nine volumes of journals that have unknown authors. There are two trade catalogs from RC Pingree & Co. and Morse and Co. And a journal of the Naples Grange Hall Association with records of the meetings and meeting notices.

Places in this collection include Franklin County, Berwick, Warren, Sangerville, Monroe, Mechanic Falls, Lewiston and Bangor.
