Biographical note

Rachel Rice was born Nov. 12, 1920, to George and Helen (Hamlin) Rice in Waterford, Maine. She married Edwin Lee Deans (1918-1995) on Dec. 25, 1944, in Goldsboro, N.C. According to the census, she was in nursing school at Maine General Hospital in the 1940 and graduated in 1943. Rachel served as the secretary for the Maine General Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association for 25 years. She worked as a nurse throughout her life, retiring in 1985 after serving as the Night Supervisor at Mercy Hospital. Rachel Rice Deans died in South Portland in 2018.
