Biographical note
Noah Swett was born July 19, 1805, in Hampden, Maine, the son of Benjamin Swett and Mehitable Atwood. He married Nancy Rice Wheeler March 9, 1835, in Hampden. She was born August 16, 1805, in Hampden, daughter of Daniel Wheeler. Soon after they were married, Noah and Nancy Swett removed to Garland, Maine, where they lived for many years. They had six children. Noah died September 8, 1873, and Nancy died August 11, 1905, in Auburn, Me., five days short of her 100th birthday. Noah and Nancy Swett and their daughter Mary Abbie Swett are bured in Oak Hill Cemetery, Auburn, Me.
Noah and Nancy's children are:
- 1. Philander Wheeler Swett was born November 29, 1835, and died December 24, 1892, in Portland, Oregon.
- 2. Henry Augustus Swett was born January 20, 1841, and lived in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He died in 1924. Henry served 1862-1864 in Co. D of the 20th Maine.
- 3. Frances E. Swett was born 1839, lived in Auburn, and was unmarried.
- 4. Sarah Curtis Swett was born November 7, 1843, lived in Auburn, and was unmarried.
- 5. Mary Abbie Swett was born May 31, 1845, married Dr. Elisha Coan, and died April 10, 1938.
- 6. Georgianna Swett was born 1849, lived in Auburn, and was unmarried.
