Biographical note

Dr. Osgood Nathan Bradbury (1828-1897) of Norway, Maine, married Ellen Reed Scribner and together they had three children, only one of whom survived into adulthood. In his early adult years, Bradbury held various jobs, including as a clerk in a counting room and as a miner in California. In 1860 he returned to Maine and studied medicine, graduating from the Medical School of Maine at Bowdoin College in 1864. He served as a Civil War Union army surgeon until 1866, at which point he went into private practice as a physician in Springfield, Me., before moving to Norway. Throughout his career, he served in various state legislative positions, was a member of the Masons and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and was active in politics.
