This collection consists entirely of correspondence from Edward C. Owen to members of the Dennison family. The letters detail his experiences living and working in the timber industry in northern California. Filed in each folder are the original envelopes, numbered to correspond to the letters.

Biographical note
Edward C. Owen was born in 1853 and lived as a child with his aunt and uncle, Jane L. and Abner Dennison, as well as his cousin Dana B. Dennison (b. 1839), in Freeport, Maine. As a young adult, he moved to Fort Jones, California, where he worked in the timber industry as a sawyer.

E. Christopher Livesay gifted these papers to MHS as part of a larger donation of material compiled over decades as a collector of Maine-related manuscripts and books. All of the material from the donation shares accession number 2023.021.
The material arrived arranged in folders by recipient and date, with letters organized chronologically. This order was retained and the material was processed as an individual collection.
