Processing note

The collection is contained in Hollinger boxes and an oversize envelope. It is a miscellaneous collection; very few papers deal with Andrew Hawes himself.

Material arrived in four different accessions (see list below). Given the manner in which material was added to the collection, creators, subjects, and groups are spread throughout the containers. In 2025, while converting the collection's legacy finding aid, MHS archivist Jordis Rosberg created the series described in the Arrangement note and reflected in the hierarchy. The series titles, scope and content notes, and the folders identified as components of each series were pulled directly from the legacy finding aid's original Arrangement note and remain unaltered. The archivist did not move material or change its designation, but rather listed all items of a shared creator or group together in the inventory, under their existing group title, irregardless of container location (the original finding aid was described based on physical order, rather than intellectual).

Note also that folders and volumes in Boxes 18 and 19 are unprocessed. This designation is included in folder notes, and titles provide a general overview of contents. These would benefit from processing in the future, which could alter their series designation.

Folder descriptions of Boxes 1-3 and the OS envelope were prepared by Hannah Adams, June 1971.

Note the following regarding accession numbers and gifted material:

  • 1763*: Boxes 1-3 and OS envelope
  • MS71-78: Box 4
  • MS87-5: Boxes 5-7 and 6 volumes
  • MS87-6: Boxes 8-19 and 3 volumes
