Biographical / Historical

Eli Bean (possibly Eli Bangs Bean, 1821-1909) was a notary public and local historian, of Brownfield, Me. He owned a general merchandise store on Main Street from approximately 1850 until his retirement in 1898. During this time he also served as a captain in the Civil War, held multiple town offices, and collected genealogy information from area families. He compiled significant collections of early historical information pertaining to the town of Brownfield.
