Administrative note
The Boston and Eastern Mill and Land Company was organized first as Machias West River Mill and Lane Company in 1835. Reorganized in 1836 as a trust with John W. Trull of Boston, Samuel R.M. Holbrook and Mark Healey as trustees, the company sold new shares in 1839. The office was in Boston. In 1855 new trustees were appointed. Debts were incurred and in 1856 the company underwent bankruptcy.
