Maine Business Indicators, 1988
Scope and Contents
This series of records represents the corporate parent of all the Merrill Companies. In the correspondence sub-subseries 1.1.1 Correspondence, folders labeled "General Correspondence" are incoming mail addressed to PDM or corporate management, while "Correspondence" refers to carbon copies of outgoing correspondence. Generally speaking, in the collection, files are in reverse chronological order (Dec. to Jan.) within folders. When PDM changed assistants, carbon copies of outgoing mail were no longer made, and some carbon copies are with the original incoming letter in "General Correspondence."
The sub-subseries 1.1.6 Prospects/Research holds records of general interactions with external companies and business development projects. The sub-subseries 1.1.7 General Administration Records includes founding documents and formerly bound mixed meeting minutes and records, 1951-2007. Sub-subseries 1.1.8 Archive Preparation contains records related to the preparation of records for transfer to MHS between 2007 and 2009. The subseries 1.2 Personnel represents Merrill employees at large. For example, Family Day invitees and Profit-Sharing lists, as well as policies and benefits that applied company-wide. Other sub-subseries here, such as 1.2.2 Management and 1.2.3 Resumes, represent the corporate management level.
