In family correspondence, the three children of Philip and Gladys are often referred to by nicknames: Virginia (Jinny or Jinx), Marion (Emmy) and Philip Jr. (Brud). Emmy is not to be confused with her aunt Marion, sister of Philip Sr., who married Samuel Shartle. The correspondence folders contain a lot of letters from members of the immediate Chapman family. For example, in a folder labeled "Various to Virginia Lockwood" there are many letters from Gladys, Philip Sr., Marion (Emmy) and Philip Jr.
