Provenance

According to an affidavit signed by John McKeen of Brunswick on February 1, 1860 at that time McKeen had been in the possession of the Pejepscot Papers for approximately 20 years. He received them from the son and heir of Josiah Little, who was believed to be the last surviving member of the Proprietors and the last clerk. According to the affidavit the papers were transferred to him in 2 Volumes in 1847 (not 20 years) in a trunk delivered by Josiah Little. According to McKeen, Little intended the Papers to ultimately reside at Maine Historical Society in their archives.
